According to Wccftech, even as the AI market remains red-hot, Intel and AMD's latest flagship server processors have recently experienced significant price cuts, with some models dropping nearly 50% on retail channels.
Intel's high-performance Xeon 6980P, featuring 128 cores and 256 threads in the Granite Rapids lineup, is now priced at $6,190, almost half of its original suggested retail price. Meanwhile, AMD's flagship EPYC 9965 from the Turin series, boasting 192 cores and 384 threads, originally had a 1kU procurement price of $14,813 but is now listed for $9,712 on ShopBLT (a 34% discount) and even lower at $8,539 on Newegg (42% off MSRP).
Other AMD high-end models, including the 160-core EPYC 9845 and processors from the Genoa series, are also seeing 25%–35% price reductions on major retail platforms.
Market analysts suggest Intel may be under pressure as AMD continues to gain market share, prompting strategic price adjustments to maintain competitiveness. At the same time, increased overall supply of server chips provides room for further discounts.
So far, neither company has officially announced these price cuts in advance, leaving the market uncertain whether this is a short-term strategy or part of a longer-term plan.
